The green flag has already dropped on the 2024 fundraising year for Speedway Children’s Charities Sonoma, the charitable arm of Sonoma Raceway. The first event, “Drive for Charity-Autocross Edition & Car Show” will be Saturday, February 3 from 9:00 AM -12:00 PM, held at Sonoma Raceway.
Autocross participants will receive professional instruction on car handling and safe maneuvering by Sonoma Raceway’s expert driver team, then will take on the “mini race course” autocross layout set up in the paddock. Licensed drivers 16 and up can drive their own car or use a Sonoma Raceway Toyota Camry (limited availability). Cost for Autocross is $150 driving your own car or $250 driving a Sonoma Raceway car. Pre-registration is required.
The car show, in partnership with Scott Anderson with Sonoma Car Club, will feature a wide display of classic and sports cars, motorcycles and trucks, plus a special display of Sonoma County Sheriff’s BearCat and SWAT Team vehicles. The Drive for Charity event is the first of many scheduled for 2024 by Speedway Children’s Charities Sonoma to raise funds for their annual grant program. Last year, the organization raised over $230,000 which was distributed via grants to 40 Sonoma County non-profits to help fund programs for children and families that provide resources for shelter, food, medical and dental care, mental health, education and more.
SCC Sonoma is dedicated to caring for children in critical need to help them and their families live safe, productive lives. Fundraising campaigns and annual events held during NASCAR and NHRA race weekends contribute to the funds that are then distributed throughout the local community via grants. From homelessness to food insecurity and everything in between, the organization takes on the heavy lifting of fundraising so community partners can focus on providing for children and their families.
