The field is officially set for tomorrow’s NASCAR Cup Series Toyota/Save Mart 350 race following Joey Logano’s 3rd pole award of the season, his first since Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 3 and Team Penske’s first pole since Bristol Motor Speedway in March. It’s the 31st pole of his career.

“It feels great”, said Logano post qualifying “My heartbeat is still going pretty good, it's an intense lap out there.”

Logano hustled his No. 22 car to a lap time of 73.273, setting his spot at the front of the field over Tyler Reddick by .083 seconds. They are joined by Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, and Kyle Larson to round out the Top Five. All four Hendrick Motorsports drivers qualified in the Top 10 for tomorrow’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 race. Logano’s pole award broke Larson’s track record that was set back in 2015 by .913 seconds. In an unprecedented feat, the Top 26 in the qualifying order also eclipsed the aforementioned mark.

Additionally, Australian rookies Will Brown and Cam Waters qualified 24th and 31st respectively to kick off their NASCAR Cup Series debuts tomorrow.

“The Old Sonoma is gone and the racing will be different. You could argue it will be better because all the drivers will be running qualifying laps, every single lap” said Logano.

Historically, Joey Logano has run quite well in Sonoma – especially as of late, where he’s scored a Top 5 finish in two out of the last three Cup Series races.
