Overcoming a late-race caution with 2 laps to go that sent the field into a one lap dash, Sam Mayer prevailed with a dominant victory in the ARCA Menards Series West General Tire 200 race. The NASCAR Xfinity Series regular led the pack for 37 of 67 laps and took advantage of his Pole Award.

When asked about his thoughts during the final caution, Mayer emphasized, “I was mostly worried about the fuel,” with Tyler Reif and Sean Hingorani chasing him down on the final lap of the race.

Mayer led the field from the green flag and was joined by the ultra-aggressive William Sawalich, battling for the first 15 laps of the race and jockeying for the lead. That set the tone for an intense race, as there were multiple in-race battles and even some slight carnage down the stretch that fueled the finish.

California boys Jack Wood and Sean Hingorani couldn’t shake each other down the stretch as they went to war for the third position, with the youngster Hingorani eventually getting the better of Wood with a sensational dive on the inside of Turn 7.

California was represented by no fewer than 14 drivers in the field, with Hingorani sporting a 3rd place finish, Loomis native Wood holding on for a 5th, and Galt local Travis McCullough hustling for a 10th place finish after starting 30th.

In addition to Sam Mayer, NASCAR Cup Series sophomore Noah Gragson and Xfinity Series regular Brandon Jones had the benefit of extra seat time. Gragson finished 16th after leading early but running into struggles that sent him toppling down the order while Jones finished strong in the top ten at 8th.

Mayer will look to make it two wins in two days tomorrow when he takes part in the Zip Buy Now, Pay Later 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at 5:00 p.m. PT airing on FS1.
