Sergio Romo spent his Major League career coming out of the bullpen, but on Sunday at
Sonoma Raceway, he will get to be a starter.
Romo, a three-time World Series Champion for the San Francisco Giants, will lead the NASCAR
Cup Series field as the official Pace Car Driver for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 (12:30 p.m. PT TV:
FOX, Radio: PRN and Sirius XM).
Romo was one of baseball’s most feared relievers from 2008-2016 as he often came out of the
bullpen to lock down opposing offenses during close games with his patented side-sweeping
slider. Most notably, he was credited with capturing the final out of the 2012 World Series in
which the Giants claimed their second championship title in three seasons.
"We couldn’t be more excited to welcome San Francisco Giants star Sergio Romo to wheel the
pace car for the Toyota/Save Mart 350,” said Brian Flynn, executive vice president and general
manager of Sonoma Raceway. “Being a fixture in Bay Area sports culture, Sergio’s exuberant
presence will surely rev up the race crowd.”
Romo will be joined by Impractical Jokers star James “Murr” Murray as race dignitaries. Murray
will serve as grand marshal of Sunday’s event as NASCAR’s stars tackle the 10-turn road course
in the heart of wine country.
