Based on consultation with Sonoma County officials, the raceway and the county have determined that use of the 50 Acres Campground as temporary evacuation center will come to a close on Monday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m. We made an error in our initial communication to on-site campers due to a delay in our ability to confirm alternative shelter locations, and we apologize to those who were rushed out of the campground on Sunday. To reiterate, we have extended use the campground through Monday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m.
The camping provided by the raceway since last Tuesday was always intended to serve as a temporary evacuation site as opposed to a long-term shelter. The raceway does not have the capacity to support evacuees who need longer-term housing and services.
We are working with county officials to provide and distribute information to all evacuees about alternative long-term shelter and camping locations, which will offer services and support that the raceway is unable to provide.
We are grateful we were able to provide a safe location for evacuees during this trying time, and apologize for any confusion or upset we may have caused with our initial communications.
