Who & What: The Classic Sports Racing Group (CSRG) is an historic & vintage car racing organization founded by David Love in 1968. Love wanted to find a way to showcase old race cars whose competition days were over. Loved passed way from Parkinson's Disease in 2013, but his spirit lives on in this event.
The Basics: There will be approximately 200 Historic & Vintage race cars, spanning Formula 1, prototype & production sports cars principally from the '50s, '60s & '70s, as well as some gems from the 30s. Names like Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Maserati, Porsche, MG, Corvette fill the paddock. Can-Am, F1, Trans-Am & more…they're all at the David Love. This year's featured marque is Triumph, the iconic, British-made, quintessential sports car.
The cars are divided into eight or nine race groups with qualifying & a race on Saturday & a warm up & a race on Sunday for each group.
When:
April 1-3; Racing is slated from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Friday afternoon is an open practice.
Where: Sonoma Raceway, 29355 Arnold Dr
What to Do: This is a family event & students are admitted free. Feel free to wander the paddock & garages & look at the cars between races. We want attendees to feel engaged with the cars, drivers & owners, so access is wide open. We encourage owners to allow kids to sit in their cars, so have your camera ready. Bring a picnic or enjoy the excellent food and craft beer and wine that is available in the paddock. For details, click on the "Spectator Info" field on CSRG's Home Page: www.csrgracing.org.
Cost: Tickets can be purchased three ways:
1) On the Sonoma Raceway site:
http://www.racesonoma.com/tickets/
2) At the gate on race days. Tickets purchased at the gate are $12 per day/$20 for both days.
3) Through online discounters such as Groupon & Living Social. Advance-sale tickets are 50% off the gate price. The ticket price includes parking adjacent to the track & access to the paddock & all spectator areas.
Admission is free for members of the military (vets & active), high school & college students are admitted free with appropriate ID.
