PRN President and Lead Broadcaster Doug Rice is having a special wind-down to a prolific career. After 36 years of entertaining NASCAR fans worldwide, Rice’s last season has featured several honors and shoutouts from tracks across the country.
At the Toyota/Save Mart 350 weekend, Sonoma Raceway will honor Rice with a placement on the Wall of Fame at the historic road course. Additionally, on the morning of race day, Rice will have a moment with the press in the media center at 9:15 a.m. to receive a commemorative plaque before putting on the headset one last time in wine country.
“I take pride in being the person afforded the opportunity to tell NASCAR’s stories both on and off the track,” said Rice. “These honors mean the world to me and at the same time there’s still work to be done.”
At other Speedway Motorsports tracks, Rice has been honored in various ways, including the naming of the Doug Rice Radio Broadcast Booth at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Opening the 2024 NASCAR season, the titan of the airwaves got the chance to call his first ever Daytona 500 in a partnership with MRN, with the network having Rice do what he does best - bringing the fan listening experience up close and personal to the thunder on track.
One of Rice’s biggest career accomplishments was overseeing the growth of PRN in conjunction with former Speedway Motorsports CEO Bruton Smith. In his first season during the 1988 NASCAR season as Program and Affiliate Director at PRN, Rice and the team only called two NASCAR Cup events. In his swan song, Rice will have the opportunity to call over 1/3 of the total schedule.
You can listen to Rice’s final Toyota/Save Mart 350 call on goprn.com during the Toyota/Save Mart 350 on June 9 at 12:30 p.m. PT.
