Even though the temperature's dropping, the track is still hot here in Sonoma and we're keeping it busy with several events benefitting our friends in need in the community. Here are a few fun ways you can get involved for a great cause this season and into the new year:
High-Powered Toy Drive: Now through Dec. 9
Supporting children in need is one our core missions, and the holidays are an opportunity to help us deliver cheer and smiles to hundreds of faces throughout the community. That's why we've fired up our 13th annual High-Powered Toy Drive to collect toys that will be distributed to more than 250 children at our annual Race to the Holidays Christmas Party (private event). With several drop-off locations around town, donating new, unwrapped toys and gifts for children from newborn to 12-years-old is easier than ever. Learn more and view the list of locations here.
24 Hours of LeMons Season Finale: Dec. 5-6
Some could argue the 24 Hours of LeMons event is our most colorful of the season, as noise, wacky penalties and questionably civilized fun hit the road course for one of the world's most unique endurance races. All-access spectator tickets are $30 at the gate, and kids 16 and under are admitted FREE - additionally, a portion of all proceeds benefit Sonoma County non-profit organizations through Speedway Children's Charity. Learn more here.
Lighting of the Snowmen at Cornerstone Winery: Dec. 6
What began as the discovery of hundreds of decorative snowmen at a factory in Boston, has now evolved into one of Sonoma's most famed traditions - the 11th Annual Lighting of the Snowmen at Cornerstone Winery (just down the road from Sonoma Raceway). Come see what the snowmen are doing this year and enjoy Santa photos, holiday music, wine and beer tasting and more. Parking is available for $10 per car, with all proceeds from parking benefitting Speedway Children's Charities. Learn more here.
Laps for Charity: Jan. 16
Ever dreamed of getting your car on the road course? Here's your chance to turn those fantasies into reality as the Sonoma Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities (SCC) hosts the 3rd annual Laps for Charity event on Saturday, Jan. 16. Cost is $150 and all proceeds benefit SCC, which supports children in need throughout Sonoma County. Laps make a great gift for the race fan in your life, although move fast - this event will sell out! Learn more here.
5th Annual John's March Against Stomach Cancer: Jan. 16
Join Sonoma Raceway in the fight against stomach cancer, the third leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide, with a "march" around the raceway's 12-turn, 2.52-mile road course. The walk honors the late John Cardinale, Sonoma Raceway's longtime Vice President of Media and Community Relations, who passed from the disease in 2013. A suggested donation of $40 per person benefitting No Stomach for Cancer includes registration for the walk/run around the track, a commemorative t-shirt, and light refreshments following the march. Learn more and join the march here.
