The 24 Hours of LeMons series kicks off its 2016 season at Sonoma Raceway this weekend during the annual Sears Pointless race weekend, Feb. 13-14.

For a weekend, suspend any preconceived notions of sleek-bodied, million-dollar pieces of technology and brace yourself for the likes of the "Trump 2016" Volkswagen Jetta of Merced taking on the "Queen Victoria" Ford Crown Victoria out of San Rafael.

Nearly 200 teams are entered for the 24 Hours of LeMons event in Sonoma, which jumpstarts the series' seven-race West Coast schedule in 2016. Prepare for plenty of noise, wacky penalties and questionably civilized fun before, during and after the on-track sessions on Saturday and Sunday. Following the checkered flag, there's the gala awards ceremony, wherein trophies and plaques are presented and the winners' purses are paid out in nickels.

While all this foolishness is primarily done in the name of fun, it's also done in the name of charity, as a portion of proceeds benefit Sonoma County non-profit organizations through Speedway Children's Charities, the charitable arm of Sonoma Raceway.

All-access spectator tickets are $30 at the gate and kids 16 and under are admitted FREE. The weekend will feature racing from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Sunday.  For more information, including the official "How Not to Fail Tech Inspection" guide, visit www.24hoursoflemons.com or follow on Twitter @24HoursofLeMons and at facebook.com/24hoursoflemons.
