Sonoma Raceway will host a slate of Sonoma Drags & Drift events for 2022 beginning March 2. Racing heats up for 23 evenings of competition on the Sonoma Valley drag strip and throughout the road course and paddock, running most Wednesdays through Nov. 9.
The raceway’s popular Wednesday Night Drags program enters its 34th season. The amateur drag racing competition gives anyone with a driver license and car that passes a simple technical inspection a chance to race down the quarter-mile drag strip. For 33 years, the popular Wednesday Night Drags program has helped local drivers fulfill their need for speed in a safe, legal and controlled environment. Drag racing runs from 4-10 p.m. and cost is $35 to race or $20 for current high school students. Spectators are $15.
Drifting is a stylized form of on track driving which focuses on a car being sideways and concentrating on the angle of the vehicle, showmanship and control taken through a set course, rather than who finishes first. Each Sonoma Drift event is limited to 70 participants per week and usually sells out. Cost is $50 to preregister or $60 at the gate. Sonoma Drift attracts participants from throughout the Bay Area and will feature a series of different track layouts throughout each evening, which will showcase both single car and tandem drifting.
Drifting will kick-off from 4-6 p.m. on the road course and will conclude behind the main grandstand from 7-10 p.m. There is also a skid pad open to beginners at the Turn 7 Runoff. Sonoma Drift is also scheduled to host Winter Jam, Dec. 17-18, a drifting festival where professional and local drifters battle in competitions along with driving side by side for pure fun.
