This July 26-28, Tony Stewart will make his much-anticipated return to wine country, trading in his 2016 road course-winning 150-mph race car for his now 330-mph Top Fuel Dragster to compete on the world-famous Sonoma Raceway Drag Strip.
The last time Tony Stewart raced at Sonoma’s iconic road course he earned the very last victory of his NASCAR Cup Series career with an exhilarating last lap pass in what’s widely referred to as one of the best races in Sonoma Raceway’s history. Now, Smoke returns to Sonoma Raceway to attack a different part of the asphalt.
Stewart, who is competing full time in the NHRA’s Top Fuel division, will put on the belts and look to roar down the Drag Strip in pursuit of becoming the first driver in history to win on a road course and drag strip at the same facility, along with earning another Sonoma champion's goblet with a different taste of victory. With a whopping five top-2 finishes in wine country during his NASCAR career, and success in open-wheel and dirt track racing, Tony has momentum on the road to mastering a fourth division of motorsports.
This season, Smoke has earned a career-high finish of 4th in Las Vegas during the final round of the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, won two rounds during the NHRA Arizona Nationals in Top Fuel.
This year, Sonoma will also welcome back the stars of the Pro Stock division including 2022 Sonoma Nationals winner Erica Enders and the most winning Pro Stock driver in NHRA history Greg Anderson after a one-year hiatus.
The 2023 DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals saw Gaige Herrera become the first driver to complete the sweep of the NHRA Western Swing with a win in the Pro Stock Motorcycle division, with Justin Ashley (Top Fuel) and J.R. Todd (Funny Car), also nabbing wins and looking to defend their crowns.
